The Tar Heels’ No. 5 men’s lacrosse team made a strong showing Saturday in it’s first exhibtion of the season. Playing within the unusual confines of the football team’s practice field, UNC topped Drexel by a score of 15-9.

North Carolina stumbled out of the gate allowing the game’s first goal after Drexel took control of the opening face-off. However, after drawing a Drexel penalty, UNC captalized on it’s first man advantage when junior attackman Bart Wagner lasered a perimeter shot past the Drexel keeper.

From that point, goalkeeper Grant Zimmerman stablized the Tar Heel’s defense in the first half and aided them in seizing a 10-4 lead at the half. Bobby McAuley, Michael Burns, and Sean Delaney led Carolina’s attack in the first half each coming away with 2 goals before the game’s midpoint.

In the second half, UNC succeeded in matching the dragons efforts and maintained their lead without allowing Drexel to ever come closer than three goals. Chris Madalon made an appearence in goal for the Tar Heels in the second half. Delaney added another goal in the second half to complete his hat track and Carolina ended up rolling to a comfortable 15-9 win.

UNC will be in action again next Saturday, again on the football practice field, in an exhibition againt Limestone College and Lynchburg College.
